The Nigerian Red Cross Society has launched a massive relief effort in Jigawa State, providing multipurpose cash assistance to 5,000 households affected by last year's flood disaster. The initiative, valued at over N500 million, aims to support vulnerable families in Auyo, M/Madori, and Kiri Kasamma Local Government Areas.

According to Prince Oluyemi Adetoyo Adeaga, National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the organization has registered 11,500 households across 13 states to benefit from the program.

In Jigawa State, 5,000 beneficiaries have been validated, comprising farmers and petty traders. Each farmer will receive N50,000, while petty traders will receive N77,000 to improve their livelihoods.

The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Mal Umar Namadi, commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its kind gesture, stating that the state government is committed to providing lasting solutions to flood-related problems.

The government has taken measures to develop a flood contingency plan, establish a flood disaster and emergency trust fund, and partner with donor agencies to support vulnerable populations.

The relief effort is part of the Nigerian Red Cross Society's broader humanitarian response to the flood disaster, which affected over 14,000 households and destroyed thousands of farmlands and materials worth billions of naira.

Skylink News report that the organization has worked closely with government agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to provide essential relief materials to affected families across 18 Local Government Areas in Jigawa State.
