University Don calls for linking science, technology, innovation into sustainable development

The Federal University Dutse (FUD) played host to a thought-provoking professorial inaugural lecture delivered by Engineer Umar B. Bindir, PhD, on Wednesday, 26th February 2025.
The lecture, titled "Linking Science, Technology, and Innovation to Sustainable Development: Are We Winning?" was hosted by the Vice Chancellor of FUD, Professor Abdulkareem Sabo.
In his lecture, Engineer Bindir emphasized the crucial role that science, technology, and innovation (STI) play in driving sustainable development. He argued that the application of STI is essential for addressing the complex challenges facing humanity, including climate change, poverty, and inequality.
Engineer Bindir noted that while significant progress has been made in harnessing STI for sustainable development, there is still much work to be done. He highlighted the need for increased investment in research and development, as well as the importance of creating an enabling environment that supports innovation and entrepreneurship.
The lecturer also emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary approach to sustainable development, one that brings together experts from various fields, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as the social sciences and humanities.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FUD, Professor Abdulkareem Sabo, commended Engineer Bindir for his thought-provoking lecture. He noted that the university is committed to supporting research and innovation that addresses the pressing challenges facing society.
The professorial inaugural lecture was attended by dignitaries from various sectors, including academia, industry, and government. The event was organized by the Professorial Inaugural Lecture and Public Lecture Committee of FUD.
